Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a modern term born out of no rules fighting. The ideas of mixing martial arts is nothing new and has been happening since the dawn of time, as every style or system known in martial arts was a creation of someones experience in mixing various fighting methods. Today we have the UFC and other venues in which we have been able to see first hand the most high percentage techniques from various arts when used under pressure. For the most part we see a majority of MMA fighters combining Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai.
There are however less popular arts that also have much to offer MMA, and we see some fighters today using techniques from these lesser known arts such as Sanda, Catch Wrestling, Judo, and Shooto. Our method consist of Shooto, Catch Wrestling, BJJ and Indonesian grappling methods as well as Muay Thai, Sanda , Panantukan and Jeet Kune Do striking. While training JKD in the 90’s we were highly influenced by Dan Inosanto to train all ranges of combat. Guro Dan was Bruce Lee’s number one student and Bruce always stressed that one must be comfortable in kicking, punching, trapping/standing grappling, and grappling range. We are proud to share material from all these lineages and continue to research new material as much as we can.
Striking
Striking skills are very very important, they say most fights end up on the ground, but they also ALL start standing! With good striking you can keep an opponent away from you and deliver damage when he try’s to get close! If he does get close you must have your grappling skills up to par to deal with the situation at hand.
Clinching
Clinch work is very very vast in MMA. Clinching allows you to knee, elbow and throw your opponent from close range. Many arts specialize in clinching, for example the Folk Style Wrestling clinch attacks the upper and lower body, the Muay Thai clinch controls the upper body to land deadly elbows ,knees and to leg sweep while the Greco Roman Wrestling clinch specializes in upper body manipulation and throws . For MMA we absorb what is useful from all arts and blend techniques from across the board.
Grappling
Once you decide to take the fight to the ground, you can control your opponents position with skills learned in our MMA Program. After you control the opponent he will move and try to escape, and when he does is when he is giving you options on how you will submit him or pummel him. You will learn various locks , strikes and positions and recognize an opening when it is presented.
